March 2025 Directors’ Letter

At the Latina Futures 2050 Lab, the ethos and lessons of the legacies of countless trailblazers are embedded in everything we do. Their stories remind us that our history is one of continuous creation, steadfast persistence, and profound innovation. From grassroots visionaries to national policymakers, Latinas across generations have consistently envisioned – and fought for dignity and justice. These women have made way for the leaders of today and tomorrow.
Too often, however, the groundbreaking work of today’s leaders is overlooked – lost in the noise of media landscapes that shape our world, from newsrooms to entertainment to the pages of scientific journals. That’s why Latina Futures doesn’t just focus on laying the foundation for change – we are writing a new narrative that connects and counteracts those who would seek to demean and divide us. Rooted in truth and fueled by the boundless imagination of girls and women, we tell bold, expansive stories that demand to be seen, heard, and remembered.
We highlight these stories across our Empowered Voices video series produced by the founder of Richie Rue Productions, Becca Guzman. Leveraging the rich perspectives of 21 Latina leaders, scholars, and trailblazers, we’ve woven together key themes about the nuances of Latina life in the U.S. with proven testimonios of impact – from the ivory tower to the halls of power. Our newest video features vignettes from Gen Z to Baby Boomer social sector leaders about driving change, contesting power, and shaping policy.
The recently passed Equal Pay Day for all women is just one example of why the work of these leaders is more necessary than ever. The uncertain trajectory of achieving pay equity and reducing other disparities looms large, especially in light of recent cutbacks to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives. These cutbacks signal a precarious future where hard-fought progress could be stalled or reversed, highlighting the urgency of our continued advocacy and storytelling.
As we approach the first 100 days of the Trump Administration, “Our Unsilencing,” Latina Futures’ inaugural opinion commentary bootcamp led by Jean Guerrero is already advancing nuanced perspectives across the print and digital news ecosystem. The first two op-eds published from bootcamp participants underscores our unwavering commitment to elevating new voices—not just to be heard, but to shape the decisions that define our future.
The women and girls leading today are not only shaping the present—they are architects of the future, ensuring that those who come after them face fewer barriers and greater opportunities to thrive. At Latina Futures, we recognize that foresight isn’t just about predicting what’s ahead – it’s about designing it. That is why we are working with the Institute for the Future, the world’s oldest continuously running futures research and educational organization, to support a multi-generational ecosystem to move beyond short-term thinking.
By investing in the dreams and amplifying the voices of girls and women, we are not simply responding to the moment – we are deliberately crafting a future where everyone has the agency to determine decisions about their lives, bodies, and destinies. In this moment, we know people are hurting and facing unprecedented attacks. But we cannot just resist we must set a vision for the future and fight for it. The stories we tell, the policies we shape, and the systems we reimagine today will set the course for a world where abundance, opportunity, and justice are not distant ideals, but lived realities for generations to come.
With your support, we can collectively work towards a future in which women and girls are recognized, celebrated, and resourced to lead boldly and authentically. This is our shared journey. This is our collective story.
