Amplifying Latina Voices

Stories play an outsized role in the fight for gender parity. The way that people, communities, and issues are framed in the news, media and entertainment, and social channels drive action and shape attitudes. In today’s Information Age, integrating Latinas’ experiences in the American story is absolutely critical to closing equity gaps and transforming systems so women and girls can thrive.

For far too long, the Latina experience has been flattened, if not completely erased from important mediums that shape our worldview. Latina Futures is amplifying Latina voices in news media and digital narratives to close knowledge gaps and seed authentic inquiries about Latina life in the U.S. This includes resourcing a complex ecosystem of Latina leaders to posit their opinions and reframe current events in news media through a Latina issues boot camp, designed by LFL senior journalism fellow Jean Guerrero.

Empowered Voices: The Latina Experience

To engage younger audiences and integrate new modalities of storytelling, Latina Futures has partnered with a Latina-owned production company, Richie Rue, to capture testimonios of a diverse cross-section of Latina leaders as the nation grapples with generational shifts and growing public distrust of core democratic institutions. To overcome media biases and information deserts, Latina Futures is spotlighting diverse voices through our webinars, speakers bureau, and newsroom briefings so that journalists, policymakers, funders, activists, and the public can engage with multi-faceted content that leaves no one behind.

By empowering Latinas to tell their own stories and highlighting the work of Latina leaders as they make history, we work to combat harmful stereotypes and amplify authentic narratives about current events in real time. Representation is integral to shaping individual attitudes about the Latina experience; Latina Futures is committed to ensuring Latina leaders are equipped and supported to shape the story of America’s past, present and future.
