In collaboration with LatinoJustice PRLDEF (LJP), Latina Futures is advancing a legacy civil rights organization’s role in shaping law and policy across the U.S. This collaboration supports three major pillars of LJP’s work—Leadership, Racial Justice, and Systems Reform. In responding to the legal and policy threats targeting Latinx and other similarly situated communities across the Northeast, Southeast, and Southwest through advocacy, leadership development, and community lawyering, LJP is a critical partner in enforcing and advancing the civil rights of all Americans.

Latina Futures and LJP are cultivating the next generation of Latina leaders through its CAP Leadership Institute to increase the pipeline of Latinx and other underrepresented students in law school while fostering awareness of with this next generation of legal scholars on issues by historically disenfranchised communities. The partnership will allow LJP to leverage specific programs and strategies to address the unique obstacles faced by Latina women in legal field such as caregiving responsibilities, navigating career advancement, mentorship and networking opportunities and targeted recruitment for leadership development programs. The collaboration will also allow LJP to develop long-term strategies and action plans to expand access to elevate Latina engagement in professional and community leadership spaces.
LJP will also provide justice-impacted Latina women with the training and knowledge they need to engage in legislative advocacy across a range of topics including solitary confinement, re-entry, parole and more. The collaboration will support roundtable discussions on gender and sexual orientation and related criminal justice issues including the over-incarceration of transgender individuals and increased solitary confinement rates for women and LGBTQ individuals. These discussions will increase the capacity of all criminal legal movement advocates to approach and enhance their work in a gender-informed manner.
