Screening: “Fenomenal, Rompeforma 1989-1996”

Fenomenal, Rompeforma 1989-1996, is a documentary about Rompeforma: Marató n de Baile, Performance & Visuales, the experimental Latinx dance and performance festival that took place in Puerto Rico from 1989-1996. Fenomenal, Rompeforma 1989-1996 features dozens of performances and commentary by many current leaders of the field, and some who have, sadly, passed. Fenomenal intends to inspire younger generations of Latinx artists and cultural activists by providing evidence of the rich creative and artistic contributions of Latinx individuals to the American avant-garde.

Latina Futures Co-Hosts Latina Equal Pay Day Event At UCLA

Equal Rights Advocates, Latina Futures, 2050 Lab, the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC), and the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute (UCLA LPPI), hosted a Latina Equal Pay Day event at the UCLA campus. The program showcased findings from UCLA LPPI showing the persistent wage gap that Latinas continue to face.

LGBTQIA / June – July 2023

Exhibition: Latina Lesbian Lineage

The exhibition “Latina Lesbian Lineage” features materials from CSRC archival collections, including newsletters from Gay and Lesbian Latinos Unidos (GLLU) and Lesbianas Unidas (LU), ephemera from LGBTQ protests, and print materials covering LGBTQ topics and issues. Particular attention has been paid to changemakers Laura M. Esquivel, Elena I. Popp, and Yolanda Retter Vargas, also formerly the CSRC librarian. Curated by Latina Futures graduate fellows Vanessa Quintero and Jocelyne Sanchez.
